Art's a friend of ours...

Years ago we became annual supporters of the art gallery in Kansas City which made us "Friends of Art" to use their language. We always joked about how we ever became 'friends of Art' when we didn't even know who Art was!

So today we went back to Oxford to the Ashmolean Museum- then on to the University of Oxford Botanical Gardens.

We DROVE all the way into the heart of Oxford which was a big deal compared to where we were just two weeks ago regarding driving!

So what do you show on a blog when you've seen 1000+ paintings and sculptures? One recurring theme was the visitation of the shepherds attending the birth of Jesus so I took several different artist's renditions of that theme...

Here's Michael slaying Lucifer...

Jane was blown away by the DETAIL on this (and 3 other related sculptures) with all the embroidery, the buttons and button holes, and more.

Jesus and the woman at the well...

Another version of the shepherds visiting Jesus...

And yet ANOTHER!

A beautiful Pissaro...

These two children caught our fancy...

Part of the University of Oxford Botanical Gardens...

A humorous sculpture in the middle of the formal gardens...

This is Magdelene College across the street from the botanical garden where C.S. Lewis  taught for 25 years...

We had a remarkable lunch atop the Ashmolean museum- a true gourmet restaurant. Parked at the train station (though we drove) and took cabs to get around Oxford this time; our feet were worn out from MILES of walking last week in Oxford! LOL!
